Design and Execution of the Lobby for Shahid Rajaee Educational and Research Heart Hospital in Tehran

This project focuses on the design and execution of a modern, functional, and welcoming lobby for one of Iran's most prestigious medical centers specializing in cardiology. The Shahid Rajaee Heart Hospital, as an educational and research facility, required a space that embodies both professionalism and comfort.

Our approach included creating a harmonious balance between aesthetics and practicality. By incorporating modern architectural elements, efficient spatial planning, and patient-oriented design principles, we ensured the lobby meets the needs of visitors, patients, and hospital staff. High-quality materials, thoughtful lighting, and ergonomic furniture were used to enhance the user experience while maintaining the institutional identity of the hospital.

Key Considerations in Hospital Lobby Design

The design of a hospital lobby is crucial, as it serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors. It should balance functionality with aesthetic appeal, addressing the diverse needs of its users. Below are the primary considerations for designing a hospital lobby:

1. Creating a Sense of Calm and Reassurance

  • The design should alleviate stress and anxiety for visitors by incorporating soft colors, natural lighting, and biophilic elements such as indoor plants.
  • A welcoming and warm atmosphere can be achieved with comfortable seating and thoughtful spatial arrangement.

2. Functionality and Efficiency

  • Smooth Circulation: Clear and straightforward pathways to guide visitors to key areas, such as reception, waiting zones, and treatment sections.
  • Separate entrances for staff, emergency patients, and general visitors ensure efficient movement.
  • Adequate seating and waiting areas must comply with hygiene standards and social distancing protocols.

3. Flexibility in Space Usage

  • The design should accommodate future changes, such as expanding the waiting area or adding new facilities.
  • Modular furniture and multipurpose spaces can enhance adaptability.

4. Aesthetic Appeal and Organizational Identity

  • The design should align with the hospital’s identity, conveying professionalism and trust.
  • High-quality, durable materials such as stone, ceramic, or glass should be used for flooring and walls to ensure longevity and ease of maintenance.
